Alla prima comes from Italian, literally meaning "at once". Painting done in a direct, expressive style that retains fresh and spontaneous feelings that come as you paint. For me the most intuitive way. Here’s a behind the scenes of a new work done for my May 2010 two-person show with Mike Rooney at City Art Gallery in Greenville NC.
